Podcast #28: Keep Playing! College opportunities even if you are not a superstar... Coach Tom Newell and Jay Arnold talk with Patricia Marino and Alan Musante on their book "Keep Playing! The Six-Step Game Plan: The Non-Superstar's Guide to Playing Your Sport in College" Podcast Available at: FamilySportsLifeToday.com |
February 2, 2009 Hi Everyone! We are really excited that after three years of writing, editing, interviewing, reviewing, and critiquing, our book, Keep Playing! The Six Step Game Plan: The Non-Superstar's Guide to Playing Your Sport in College is now available either directly from our publisher, Rose Dog Books, www.rosedogbookstore.com and www.amazon.com. There is so much information packed into this $17.00 paperback book, that we hope it answers questions for the broad spectrum of parents and student athletes. The book can help those of you already familiar with the world of athletics and looking to college sports, and help parents totally unfamiliar with the sports world and wondering how to help your child get into sports, improve his ability in the sport in which he is already involved, and to help you know how to figure out if they want to play in high school, let alone college. While we couldn't answer every question you might have, please pick up a copy of the book. If you don't find what you need, please email us or respond to our blog; we would be happy to chat with you. |
Attention: Bookstores, Coaches, Affiliates, High Schools & Middle Schools! We are beginning a series of short presentations, usually about 10-15 minutes, about the book and what we discovered as parents, followed by a Q and A session. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation, please contact us. |
March 29, 2009 Don't stop chasing a dream By Ginny Prior Columnist Posted: 03/26/2009 11:30:37 AM PDT Updated: 03/26/2009 11:32:19 AM PDT IT MUST BE REDWOODS, giving off all that oxygen. Something is stimulating brain cells here, because people seem more creative than ever. I just finished reading a book by hills couple Al Musante and Pat Marino — called "Keep Playing!" It's a guide to helping your child play college sports, even if they rode the bench on their high school team. It worked for their daughter, who didn't start for her Bishop O'Dowd High School varsity basketball team, but walked on at DePaul University and ended up with a Division I scholarship to the University of San Francisco. Think about that. A player who didn't start and wasn't recruited — getting a Division I scholarship. Aside from the savings in tuition, this speaks volume about the young woman's spirit and the support of her parents. Pat says there are plenty of kids, just like her daughter, who were either late bloomers or didn't have the chance to play a lot in high school. She and her husband wrote this "how to book" for kids (and their parents) who have a passion and perseverance to play. You can find out more on their Web site at www.youcanplaycollegesports.com. Sports has always been a passion of mine; from a college basketball player to my days as a professional overseas, I’ve known one thing: sports! I enjoy talking about it and now I get the opportunity to do that every day. Professionally, I’m a college recruiter and have effectively helped thousands of high school student athletes get recruited and placed in college. On my sports talk show, I want to talk about the issues that are affecting athletes; the things athletes must deal with on a day-to-day basis. The critical issues that they are confronted with. - Al Woods |
